How to Open a WDB File

By Aurelio Locsin

A WDB (Works Database) file is created by the database program bundled into the Microsoft Works productivity suite. It is primarily created for home use such as address lists and home inventories, and can easily transfer information with other programs of the suite such as the word processor and spreadsheet. Only one program can open a WDB file.

Step 1

Run Microsoft Works.

Step 2

Choose the "File" menu and the "Open" option to display the standard file dialogue.

Step 3

Select "*.WDB" from the "File As Type" drop-down to limit the display to WDB files.

Step 4

Choose the file that you need and double-click it. The file opens in Works.

Tips & Warnings

  • So you can open the file in other applications, consider saving it in a more common format like DBF, TXT or CSV. From the "File" menu, choose the "Save As" option and select a new format from the "File As Type" drop-down menu. Note that only DBF preserves relationship information. TXT and CSV formats do not.
