How to Open a Winmail Attachment

By Nick Davis

A Winmail file, an attachment connected to Microsoft Outlook, contains a variety of components including files and styling information related to the specific email. The Winmail attachment's file format is "winmail.dat," but may also be formatted as "ATT001.dat." The attachment cannot be opened directly---a converter must be used. Winmail attachment converters not only extract the individual files, but also allow you to save the attachment's files for use in other programs including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
