How to Open an .INDD

By Julius Vandersteen

Adobe InDesign CS5, a desktop publishing application for Windows and Mac, allows you to design and create documents for viewing in print and online. Files made with Adobe InDesign have the extension ".INDD." The Windows version requires a computer with an Intel Pentium 4 processor; Microsoft Windows XP, Vista, Business, Ultimate or Enterprise; 1 GB of RAM; and 1.6 GB of hard drive space. The Mac version requires a multicore Intel processor; Mac OS X 10.57 or 10.6; 1 GB of RAM; and 2.6 GB of hard drive space.

Step 1

Double-click on the shortcut for Adobe InDesign on your computer.

Step 2

Click "File," then click "Open."

Step 3

Navigate to the folder on your computer that has the Adobe InDesign file ending in ".INDD," click on it to select it and then click "Open" to open it.

Step 4

Go to Adobe's InDesign free trial page if you don't have the application on your computer (see Resources). Download a fully functional evaluation copy of InDesign to your computer, and then double-click on it to install it. You have 30 days to try it out, after which you can purchase it or it will expire.
