How to Play Blu-Ray DVDs in VLC

VLC is a free media player that is available on multiple platforms including Windows, OS X and Linux. It is also an open source project, meaning that the source code is open to anyone who wants to contribute. VLC can play software-based video files such as AVIs and MP4s as well as DVD discs.

Things You'll Need

  • VLC Media Player

Step 1

Open the VLC media player. To do this, click the "Start" button, select "All Programs", select the "VLC" folder and then click the "VLC Media Player" application.

Step 2

Click the "File" menu and select "Open Disc" from the menu.

Step 3

Select "DVD (menus)" in the "Disc Type" field.

Step 4

Check the "Device Name" field to ensure the correct DVD drive is selected.

Step 5

Click the "OK" button to open the DVD disc.
