How to Post a Photo in Reddit

By Glen Tickle

Reddit is a popular online community where users can share content with one another. Other users can vote on the content with a simple "Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down" system. The more popular an item becomes, the higher up on the site it appears. Reddit does not host content from its users. The substance of the site is made up of links to photos, videos and more elsewhere on the internet. To share a photo on Reddit, it must first be posted to another site, such as Flickr.com, and the link to that site can be posted to Reddit. Sharing a link on Reddit only requires a few simple steps.

Creating a New Account

Step 1

Navigate your web browser to Reddit.com (see Resources.)

Step 2

Click the "Submit a Link" button on the home page of Reddit.com.

Step 3

Type a username and password in the appropriate fields under the "Create a New Account" heading of the window. If your desired username is already taken, it will request a new one.

Step 4

Enter the series of letters that appears in the box below the password fields.

Step 5

Select "Remember Me" to have Reddit remember the new username and password. Do not select this on a shared workstation such as in an office or school.

Step 6

Click "Create Account."

Sharing a Link

Step 1

Click the "Submit a Link" button near the top right corner of the Reddit homepage.

Step 2

Login using an existing username and password, or create one using the window that appears after clicking "Submit a Link."

Step 3

Enter a title for the photo in the "Title" field.

Step 4

Paste the link to the photo in the "Link" field.

Step 5

Add tags in the "Reddit" field. Tags are words or phrases that describe a link and can make it easier to find online.

Step 6

Enter the series of letters in the box beneath the "Are you human? (sorry)" field. This is to verify that the user is a person and not an automated bot.

Step 7

Click "Submit."
