How to Prevent Office Communicator From Showing Idle

By Amy Romero

Microsoft Office Communicator is an integrated program that allows users to communicate with other users of the program. Office Communicator uses Microsoft Outlook to update a user's status based on their calendar availability. It also changes the visual availability for a user based on whether or not he is active on the computer. There is a way to manually change a user's status in order to prevent it from showing that the user is idle.

Things You'll Need

  • Microsoft Office Communicator

Step 1

Open Office Communicator. Click "Start" on the lower left side of the computer screen, then select "all programs." Locate and click on "Office Communicator" from the list.

Step 2

Click on the small arrow next to the large status button. The button may currently be green, red or yellow.

Step 3

Select "available" from the options. This will remain as the status until it is changed again manually, thus preventing the status from showing idle.
