How to Print a 1040A Form
The 1040 form is for filing an individual federal income tax return with the Internal Revenue Service. The 1040A form is the shortened version of the 1040 form and is used by individuals whose taxable income is less than $100,000 per year and who take the standardized deductions. You can print a 1040A form for free from any computer that has access to an Internet connection and is connected to a working printer.
Things You'll Need
- Internet connection
- Adobe Reader
Open your Internet browser and go to the Forms and Publications section of the IRS website using the link in References.
Select the link to “Form and Instruction number” under first subheading titled “Download forms and publications by.”
Locate the 1040A form from the list, which is in numerical order. You can also find a direct link to the 1040A form in Resources. Clicking on the link will open a pdf file in Adobe Reader. If you do not have Adobe Reader, you can download a copy for free at Adobe.com. By opening the form in Adobe Reader, you can fill it out by typing in the correct information into the appropriate boxes. This saves you from having to fill out the form by hand after you print the form.
Click on the printer icon on the left side of the screen to print the 1040A document. If you cannot find a printer icon on the Adobe screen, you can go to “File” and select “Print,” which will also print the document. A final option is to press the "Ctrl" button plus the "P" button at the same time (or Command or Apple plus "P" for Macintosh users). This will open the printing options automatically.
Make sure that your computer is connected to a printer and that the printer power is on. Confirm that you want to print the document.
