How to Print Scribd Read-Only Documents

By Tasos Vossos

Scribd is a document-sharing website that allows you to upload, read and share documents in a variety of formats, including plain text (.txt), PDF and the Word format (.doc and .docx). Two of the main features of the website are the ability to download a text or print it, using the buttons on the right of the document. However, Scribd lists a number of documents only as "read-only," meaning that the "Download" and "Print" options are deactivated. You can still print the document, though, following an indirect but simple route.

Step 1

Open the page of the read-only document on Scribd. Press the "F11" key to display the contents of the website in full screen mode. Scroll down until you have fitted the top and bottom of the document's page into the screen. If this is not possible, press "Ctrl" and the "-" (minus) key to make the contents of the page a scale smaller.

Step 2

Press "Print Screen (PrtSc)" on the keyboard to take a snapshot of the screen's contents. If you have more than one window on display, select the Web browser window and click "Alt" and "Print Screen" (this "photographs" only the active window.)

Step 3

Open Microsoft Paint and make the canvas as small as possible, ensuring that there is no blank space on the printable page. Press "Ctrl" and "V" simultaneously to paste the image of the Scribd read-only file.

Step 4

Click on the "Select" option (on Windows Vista it is the rectangle on the right of the "Cut" and "Copy" options). Place the mouse pointer on one corner of the document. While holding the right-click button, drag the mouse towards the opposite corner. Press "Ctrl" and "C," or click on the "Copy" option on the toolbar, when you have selected the document.

Step 5

Open a new Microsoft Paint file. Press "Ctrl" and "V" or click on "Paste" on the toolbar. Use Paint's "Print" option to put the document's page on paper.

Step 6

Repeat Steps 1 through 5 to copy and print the rest of the pages.

Tips & Warnings
