How to Print Wallet-Sized Pictures

By Jay Leon

Wallet-sized photos come in two sizes. Professional photo labs often use the standard wallet size. It measures 2.5 x 3.5 inches before the edges are trimmed and can fit up to eight wallets per 8" x 10" sheet. But Windows uses a less common size that can fit up to nine slightly smaller pictures on the same paper size. This latter type may fit better in your wallet without you having to trim the edges first.

Things You'll Need

  • Windows 7 Photo Viewer

Step 1

Click the Windows 7 "Start" menu. Click "Pictures." Go to the folder that contains the picture you want to print in wallet size.

Step 2

Click the picture. Select the "Preview" button arrow and then click "Windows Photo Viewer." Windows now displays the selected picture in Photo Viewer.

Step 3

Click the "Print" button on the toolbar. Click "Print" to open the 'Print Picture" dialog box.

Step 4

Use the drop-down menus to choose the printer, quality, paper size and other options.

Step 5

Look in the "Print size" area on the right column. Click "Wallet size."

Step 6

Click the number next to "Copies of each picture." Enter the number of copies of the picture you want to print. You can print up to nine wallets on a single 8" x 10" sheet. If the number of copies you want to print exceeds the space the paper size allows, you will need more sheets.

Step 7

Turn on the printer. Insert as many photo paper sheets as needed. Click the "Print" button in the Photo Viewer print dialog box.

Tips & Warnings

  • For best results, crop the picture to fit a standard wallet size before printing with Windows Photo Viewer.
  • If you preview the picture and you see a lot of white space around it, enable "Fit picture to frame" in the Photo Viewer print options. This is to make sure the picture fits the wallet size as much as possible. Preview the result to check its appearance.
