How to Program a Charter Remote Control
Your Charter Cable remote control lets you operate your cable converter box, including channel selection, channel favorites and pay-per-view functions from the comfort of wherever you are seated. The remote can also be programmed to control your TV, VCR, DVD player and other devices, including powering them on and off; increasing the volume control and starting a movie or DVD disc. To program your Charter remote control, you need the control code for the device you want to program.
Things You'll Need
- Internet connection
- Internet browser
Open your computer's Internet browser.
Navigate to the "Charter Remote Control Codes" link in the Resources section of this article to obtain the control code for the electronic device you want the Charter remote control to operate.
Turn on the TV, DVD player, VCR or other device you want the Charter remote control to operate once you have the control code.
Press the button on the top of the remote control that represents the device---"TV," "VCR" or other button on the remote control.
Press and hold "Setup" on the Charter remote control until the red light on the top of the remote control blinks twice.
Release the "Setup" button.
Enter the control code for the device into the remote control's keypad.
Aim the Charter remote control to the device. Press the "Power" button on the remote control. The device should power off. If it doesn't turn off, check the control code and repeat steps 4 through 8, with a different control code, until the device powers off.
Tips & Warnings
- If your Charter remote control does not have an "All On/All Off" button, the red power button on the top of the remote control acts as the "All On/All Off" button.
- You can also perform an "All Search" for the control code. This is ideal if you don't find a control code for your specific device. Complete steps 3 through 6. Enter "9 9 1" as the control code. Slowly alternate pressing "Power" and the button representing the device you want the remote control to operate until the device powers off. The remote control is looking for a code that will work with the device. When the device turns off, press the "Setup" button on the Charter remote control to save the device's code.
