How to Program a Magnavox Universal Remote Control
Universal remote controls emerged in the 1990s and changed the way many owners controlled their personal entertainment systems. Universal remotes were used to replace the clutter of remote controls from televisions, stereos, DVD players, VCRs, and other devices. Universal remotes like the Magnavox Universal Remote Control can be programmed to control a number of devices in your home. To use your Magnavox remote, first you must program it for each of the devices you want it to control.
To program your remote, the device must be compatible with a remote control. Manually turn on the device (television, VCR, etc.) that you wish to program.
Press and hold the "Code Search" button on your Magnavox Universal remote control. Hold the button down until the red indicator light on the front of the control stops flashing and holds its red color. Once the indicator remains red, release the Code Search button and proceed to the next step.
Press the button on the remote for the device you are programming. The buttons are labeled clearly with the name of the device, such as "TV" or "DVD." Watch for the indicator light to blink, then stay lit again.
Find the code for the device and the manufacturer. The code can be found in the Magnavox Universal remote program guide that comes with the remote (or on the website found in the References below). Enter the number code into your remote using the remote's keypad. Make sure the remote is pointed at the device as you are entering the code. Once a correct code has been successfully entered, the red indicator light will turn off.
Point the remote again at your device and press the "Channel Up" button on the remote. Continue pressing and releasing the button at two-second intervals until the device responds. When the device responds, the programming has been successfully completed. You can then repeat the process and program the remote for another device.
