How to Put GIF Images in Powerpoint

By Craig Witt

Included in the Microsoft Office suite of productivity software, PowerPoint is one of the most widely used presentation programs on the Microsoft Windows operating system. It allows you to create slide-based presentations, display them on a projector or similar type of screen, and print hard copies to provide to your audience as a reference. The program supports many common image formats, including the 256-color Graphics Interchange Format that's widely used on the World Wide Web. Once you know how to select the proper menu items, adding GIF images to any PowerPoint presentation requires just a few clicks.

Step 1

Open Microsoft PowerPoint.

Step 2

Click the "Office" button near the top-left corner of the window and select "Open."

Step 3

Locate your PowerPoint presentation file in the resulting window and then select it by double-clicking the file's icon.

Step 4

Press the "Page Down" or "Page Up" key repeatedly until you reach the slide into which you want to insert a GIF image.

Step 5

Select the "Insert" tab located near the top-left corner of the program window.

Step 6

Click the "Picture" button located within the "Illustrations" section of the resulting menu bar.

Step 7

Look to the bottom-right corner of the resulting dialog box, click the "All Pictures" option, and then select "Graphics Interchange Format" from the menu that follows.

Step 8

Navigate to the folder containing the GIF image you want to add to the slide and then select the file by double-clicking its icon. PowerPoint adds the image to the selected slide immediately.
