How to Put Piercings on a Picture

The digital age has ushered in a new era of photography. Even photo editing software available at the consumer level can produce complicated optical effects. Users can add and remove elements from virtually any kind of photo, including portraits. Facial piercings make a strong statement, especially in portraits, which highlight them in detail. In some cases, you may even wish to add a piercing to a photograph. You can add a piercing to an existing photograph with some basic design techniques in a few steps.

Step

Open the portrait you wish to add piercings to with the photo editing software of your choice.

Step

Click on the "File" menu and select "New Layer."

Click on the "Selection" tool. In some software, this is called the "Lasso" tool.

Step

Draw a circle representing the outline of the piercing as it emerges from the subject's skin.

Step

Hold the "Control" button and draw a second circle representing the outline of the opposite end of the piercing. Simple piercings with one exposed end like earrings or nose piercings only require one selection.

Click on the "Fill" tool.

Step

Click on the Colors palette and select a gray mid-tone.

Click the "Fill" cursor on the selected areas in the new layer to fill them in with gray.

Right-click the layer and select "Blending Options." Some software will refer to this option as "Layer Style" or "Effect."

Select a "Bevel and Emboss" effect from the menu. This will shade the selected layer so that the piercing appears to have depth and shine. Adjust the sliders in the menu until the piercing has the desired look.

Click on the "File" menu, select "Save As," enter a file name and destination and click "Save" to save the altered image file.
