How to Reactivate a Verizon Phone

With Verizon Wireless' "New Every Two" program, it's possible you have collected numerous phones over the years. If you lose your current phone and don't have insurance, you might not want to pay full price for a new cell phone. If you still have one of your old phones, you can follow Verizon's online procedures to reactivate it until you are able to procure a new phone.

Step 1

Visit You must be a registered user to activate a phone online. If you don't have an account, register.

Step 2

Sign in to myVerizon. Click on the button that says "Activate Device."

Step 3

Read steps 1 through 3. Click "Next."

Step 4

Read about "Install Backup Assistant." Click "Next."

Step 5

Enter the "ESN/MEID" number of your device. This is located beneath your battery back inside your phone; the numbers are either eight or 14 digits long. Make sure your old device is turned off, if you have it nearby, and click "Continue."

Step 6

Wait for Verizon to process your request, 15 to 20 minutes.

Step 7

Dial *228 on your new phone, and select "Option 1." This will program your phone and confirm the activation process.
