How to Reboot a Mac Mini

By Steve Gregory

Your Apple Mac Mini will need rebooting in the event of a system freeze or if required by an application or system utility to complete a process. The method you choose to reboot your Mini depends on the status of the operating system or the hardware options that are available. For example, if the system is not responding to keyboard or mouse input, you will have to manually reboot the computer.

Use Apple Menu

Step 1

Close all open applications.

Step 2

Click the "Apple" icon in the top-left corner of the desktop.

Step 3

Select "Restart" from the drop-down list. Click the "Restart" button on the dialog window that opens. The Mac Mini reboots.

Use Keyboard Shortcut

Step 1

Quit all open programs.

Step 2

Press the "Control" and the "Eject" keys simultaneously. The keyboard you are using with the Mac Mini must have an eject button, such as the Apple wireless keyboard. The "Are you sure you want to shut down your computer now?" dialog box opens.

Step 3

Click the "Restart" button to reboot the Mac Mini.

Use Power Button

Step 1

Locate the "Power" button. On the Mac Mini it is on the back of the computer where all of the ports are located.

Step 2

Press and hold the "Power" button for approximately five seconds. The Mac Mini automatically shuts off.

Step 3

Press the "Power" button again to start the computer.
