How to Record Online Videos for Free

Online videos can sometimes be downloaded to your computer -- or the reverse. They can be uploaded for free. A streaming video is transmitted over the Internet to your computer and is often not downloaded or stored on your computer. There are many free downloadable programs that can record online videos for free, so you can watch them without being connected to the Internet. Or you can choose to post them on YouTube or other sites.

Step 1

Use YouTube Robot to download videos from YouTube and similar sites. Download Youtube Robot and install the program on your computer. Open YouTube Robot and a small icon will appear on the screen. Highlight the URL of the online video that you want to record. Drag it, and drop it into the YouTube Robot icon. The online video will download and can be played on your computer.

Step 2

Use FLV Downloader. FLV Downloader can record online videos from YouTube and other video websites. Download FLV Downloader and install it on your computer. Open the FLV Downloader program. Copy and past the URL of the online video that you want to record in the field under "Enter the URL of the video you want to download." Click "Download." FLV Downloader will then download the online video.

Step 3

Use Real Player SP. Download Real Player SP. During the installation, make sure the box is checked for installing Real Player's "Download this Video" feature. Go to the website of the online video that you want to record. Play the online video and scroll the mouse over the video. Click the "Download this Video" icon that appears. The online video will then be recorded onto your computer.

  • Downloaded online videos can be converted to video formats, such as AVI, MPEG, and MOV, using certain downloadable programs, including YouTube Robot and FLV Downloader.
