How to Record Skype Calls on a Mac
Skype is increasingly used for video conferencing, remote interviews and other remote video applications. A feature the software lacks however is call recording, making it impossible to save important conversations for later review. A number of companies have created their own companion applications for recording Skype calls on Apple's Mac OS X. While Skype's website recommends Ecamm Call Recorder, many other applications exist that can perform the same function.
Ecamm Call Recorder
Restart Skype after Ecamm Call Recorder has been installed. Ecamm Call Recorder will automatically launch when Skype is started.
Click the options button to the left of the red record button, it has a symbol that looks like a sun on it. You can set any options such as the type of recording you want to make.
Click the red record button to begin recording. The rectangular indicator to the right will blink red when a call is being recorded.
IMCapture for Skype
Launch the IMCapture for Skype app file from your "Applications" folder, then launch the Skype application. When Skype launches, you will be asked to approve IMCapture for Skype's calls to the Skype API. Accept to enable the application.
Click the "Preferences" button in the IMCapture for Skype dialog, then set the recording preferences along with a location to save the file. You will need to click the "Attach Video" option's check box if you wish to save more than just audio.
Click the "Record Audio" and "Record Video" buttons, once a call has been initiated, to begin recording. Each time you click the "Stop" button, a new recording file will be generated.
Create a Simkl account and link your Skype account to it. Download and install the Simkl application once your account is set up. You will need your Simkl account login to finish the installation.
Launch Skype, then click the "Allow" button to give Simkl access to the Skype API. Log in to your Skype account as you normally would.
Start a voice or instant messaging chat to begin recording. Simkl recording every instance of every chat, but can only record the audio on video sessions.
