How to Record Voice Memo on iPhone 3GS

iPhone owners can use the installed Voice Memo application in conjunction with a built-in microphone to make short recordings. These can be saved directly on the phone, stored as MP3s or sent out as email attachments. This simple task can be done quickly.

Step

Open the Voice Memo application by clicking on its photo. This will bring up a large image of a microphone.

Step

Click on the red dot at the bottom left-hand side of the screen to begin recording. You may also press on the iPhone's main circular button to start.

Step

Begin speaking. You do not need to hold the phone extremely close to your face but do speak as though you were talking to someone on speakerphone.

Step

Click on the red "=" button to pause the recording. A red banner at the top of the screen tells you the length of the recording and its status (Recording or Paused).

Step

When you have completed your voice memo, click on the black square at the bottom of the screen. The iPhone automatically saves your voice memo in a file on the phone.

Step

Click on the round button at the bottom right-hand corner of the screen to view your voice memos. This will take you to a new screen where you voice memos will be listed by date, time and length.

Step

Click on a voice memo from the list to listen to it. By default, the voice memo will play aloud from your iPhone's speaker, but you can deactivate this feature by clicking on the "Speaker" button at the top left-hand side of the screen.

Step

Click "Share" to send the voice memo in an email or through MultiMedia Messaging (MMS). Click "Delete" to remove the voice memo entirely from your phone.
