How to Recover a Lost Password for Free

By Jim Campbell

If you lose your Windows password, you don't need to pay for recovery. You can change the password and recover your account for free. The administrator account is included with all Windows operating systems. You use this account to change or reset the account password. The new password is then used to log in to your account. This is a free and easy way to recover any Windows account on your machine.

Step 1

Log in to your Windows 7 computer using the administrator user name and password. This logs you in to the desktop using an account that has full control over the computer settings.

Step 2

Click the Windows "Start" button and then click "Control Panel." Click "User Accounts" to view a list of user accounts on the machine.

Step 3

Click "Manage Another Account." This brings you to a list of user accounts configured on your machine. Double-click the one you want to recover.

Step 4

Click the "Change Password" link. Two text boxes appear. Enter a new password for the user in the first text box, and then enter the same password in the second confirmation text box.

Step 5

Click the "Change Password" link to save your password. Log out of the machine and now use the recovered user name and password to access the account.
