How to Recover From an OEM Partition
Most major computer manufacturers include a special OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) partition that allows you to recover your computer in case system failure occurs. The computer manufacturers typically use the recovery software Microsoft implemented on its installation discs, but modify the software to fit manufacturing purposes.Many manufacturers allow you to access the recovery partition from Windows Advanced Boot Options.
Restart or power on the computer. Press "F8" at the boot screen to open "Advanced Boot Options."
Use the up- and down-arrow keys to scroll to "Repair Your Computer." Press "Enter" to boot to the selection.
Click "Next." Log in as the administrator. Left-click a recovery option from the menu and follow the onscreen instructions to restore your computer.
Tips & Warnings
- The available recovery options may vary. Some include all the utilities available on the Windows DVD (System Restore, Startup Repair, Complete PC Backup and Restore, Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool and Command Prompt). Others have their own recovery utilities.
- Hewlett-Packard requires you to press "F11" at startup to access HP System Recovery.
