How to Recover Lost Itunes Library From Ipod

Something horrible happened and now your entire iTunes music library is gone from your computer. Your iPod may be able to come to the rescue. You can mount your iPod on your PC and copy the music and video files from the iPod to the PC, and eventually to iTunes.

Step

Connect your iPod to the computer. ITunes launches.

Step

Do not sync your iPod to iTunes or the software will erase everything on the iPod and make it look like your iTunes library. Cancel a sync immediately if one starts.

Step

Select your iPod under "Devices" in the iTunes left navigation panel. Under the Summary tab in the main iTunes window, click on the box "Enable disk use." Do not allow the computer and iPod to sync.

Step

Go to "Start" and "My Computer." Locate your iPod in the list of disks. If you don't see anything, go to "Tools" followed by "Folder Options." Check the "Show Hidden Files and Folders" tab and "Apply" and click "OK."

Step

Double-click on the iPod icon on your desktop to open it. Locate and click on the folder on the iPod that says "iPod_Control." Find and click on the "Music" folder.

Step

Drag the "Music" folder to your hard drive icon to copy it. Right-click on the "Music" folder you copied to your computer and change the properties on the folder so the files are not hidden by unchecking the hidden box and selecting "All Sub Folders and Files" in the box that appears.

Step

In iTunes, choose "Edit," followed by "Preferences." Under the "Advanced" tab, click "Keep iTunes Music folder organized."

Step

Choose "Add Folder to Library" from the iTunes File menu. Navigate to the Music folder you copied. Select it and click "OK." Your music is copied to iTunes.
