How to Remove a Google Search Bar on Droid

By James Crider

Google's Android operating system allows you to place widgets on the home screen, just like Windows or Mac OS X on the desktop. Most Android phones come with a few widgets already on the home screen, including the standard Google search bar at the top. Most users find the search bar superfluous, as pressing the "Search" button achieves the same result. If you want to make more space available on your home screen or just tidy up a bit, you can remove the Search widget (or any widget.)

Step 1

Press your phone's "Power" button. Slide the unlock bar down or to the right to unlock the screen.

Step 2

Press the "Home" button. Slide the screen left or right until you see the Google search widget.

Step 3

Tap and hold the search widget until it pops up and the Trash Can icon appears. Drag the widget over the Trash Can icon and release it to remove the widget.

Tips & Warnings

  • To access the Google search app without the search bar, simply press the "Search" (magnifying glass) button while the home screen is active.
