How to Remove About Blank From Internet Explorer

Internet Explorer offers three options that you can use to customize your homepage: custom, default and about:blank. With the custom option, you can set Internet Explorer to open a website of your choice on startup -- or anytime -- by clicking the Home icon or pressing "Alt" and "Home." The default option goes to And about:blank opens a blank page. You can remove the about:blank page and replace it with any page you want.

Remove About:Blank from Internet Explorer

Step 1

Open Internet Explorer.

Step 2

Click in the "Address" field of the Explorer window (the place where "about:blank" appears). Type the address of the website you want to set as your homepage -- or one that you regularly visit -- and then press "Enter."

Step 3

Go to the "Tools" menu. Choose "Internet Options."

Step 4

Click the "General" tab. Under "Home Page," click the "Use Current" button and then click "OK." This will set the website you opened as your homepage and remove about:blank.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you ever want to go back to seeing about:blank when you open Internet Explorer, go to "Internet Options," and under "Home Page," click the "Use Blank" button, then click "OK."
