How to Remove Internet Explorer

Windows Internet Explorer is Microsoft's free Web browser. Whether you want to save space on your hard drive or start using a new Web browser, you'll need to know how to remove Internet Explorer. Each version of Windows offers Internet Explorer, as well as the option to uninstall it.

Windows 7

Step 1

Close all programs on your computer.

Step 2

Click on the "Start" button and on "Control Panel."

Step 3

Click on the "Programs and Features" icon.

Step 4

Click on the "Turn Windows features on or off" link on the left side of the screen. A new window will open.

Step 5

Click on the box next to "Internet Explorer." A new window will open.

Step 6

Click on the "Yes" button to remove Internet Explorer.

Windows Vista

Step 1

Close all programs on your computer.

Step 2

Click on the "Start" button and on "Control Panel."

Step 3

Click on "Uninstall a Program" under "Programs."

Step 4

Click on "View installed updates" in the Tasks pane.

Step 5

Double-click on "Windows Internet Explorer." A new "Uninstall an update" dialogue box will appear.

Step 6

Click on the "Yes" button to remove Internet Explorer.
