How to Remove Internet Explorer from Vista

By Kenneth Coppens

Internet Explorer is the default web browser for all Windows computers. Since so many people have Internet Explorer, cyber criminals focus much of their attention on programming spyware and other malicious software that can bypass its security. For this reason, you may wish to remove Internet Explorer. You can do so using Vista's Control Panel.

Automatic Method

Step 1

Click the "Start" menu icon and open the "Control Panel."

Step 2

Click on “Uninstall a Program” and wait for the new window to open.

Step 3

Click on “View Installed Updates” in the tasks pane on the left side of the window.

Step 4

Search for "Windows Internet Explorer" and double-click on it to start the removal process. Confirm that you want to remove Internet Explorer. If Internet Explorer is not listed, you cannot remove it through the Control Panel.

Step 5

Type in your administrator password if prompted to do so. Follow the on-screen instructions to completely uninstall Internet Explorer.

Step 6

Restart the computer.
