How to Remove Music on an iPhone

By Lucosi Fuller

The Apple iPhone, like the iPod, doesn't contain a built-in utility that allows you to remove songs without the use of a computer, so you're stuck with the music you put on it until you decide to delete it with iTunes.

Things You'll Need

  • Computer
  • iPhone
  • USB data cable
  • iTunes

Step 1

Connect the small end of your USB data cable to the iPhone and the larger end to the computer.

Step 2

Start up iTunes and choose your iPhone from the program's left pane.

Step 3

Select the "Summary" tab at the top of the screen and click "Manually manage music and videos". Click "Apply" to confirm your selection.

Step 4

Click the triangle next to "iPhone" in the left pane to display a drop-down list. Choose "Music" from the list.

Step 5

Select all the music that appears in the right pane or click on individual songs to highlight the music you want to delete and then press the "Delete" key on your keyboard to remove the music from your iPhone.
