How to Remove the Blogger Android Gallery

By Alan Sembera

When you browse through your snapshots on your Android smartphone, you may be surprised to see pictures from your Blogger account. Google automatically downloads these pictures whenever you sync your smartphone with your Google account. You can remove the photos by clearing the data from your Gallery or Photos app. You must also change your sync settings to keep the photos from returning the next time you connect your smartphone to Google.

Step 1

Tap the "Settings" icon on your home screen. If the Settings icon isn't visible, tap the "All Apps" icon with the square dots to display more options.

Step 2

Swipe down to the Accounts section and then tap "Google." Select the Google account you use with Blogger.

Step 3

Tap "Google Photos" to remove the check mark next to it. On some devices, this option may be listed as "Sync Google Photos." Also, deselect "Sync Picassa Web Albums," if you see it listed.

Step 4

Return to the main Settings screen and select "Apps" or "Application Manager." Tap "All" or swipe to the All screen, and then tap either the "Photos" or "Gallery" app, depending on which Android version you use.

Step 5

Tap the "Clear Data" button and then tap "OK" to confirm. This removes all of your Blogger photos and other photos synced from your Google account, but it does not affect pictures taken with your device. The next time you view your photos in the Android Gallery or Photos app, you may have to wait several seconds while the app rebuilds its thumbnail files.

Tips & Warnings

  • Turning off the photo sync feature also prevents your Android device from downloading other Google Web album photos. It does not prevent Google from making backups of pictures you take with your smartphone if you have auto-backup enabled.
  • These steps apply to Android versions 2.3 through 4.4. The exact menu sequences and commands may vary on your smartphone, as device manufacturers often customize their Android installations.
