How to Remove Yourself from a Yahoo Group

By Techwalla Contributor

Yahoo! Groups provide users with a mechanism for sharing files, messages and polls -- but Yahoo! doesn't remove inactive users, so people who joined groups that are no longer active or for which they no longer have interest must remove themselves from groups. This removal process usually works most effectively using the Groups control panel.

Step 1

Log into Yahoo! Groups at groups.yahoo.com. You will need to input your user name and password.

Step 2

Scan the list of your subscribed groups, then click on the group from which you wish to resign.

Step 3

Edit your membership settings. Once you are brought to the main page for the group, look at the top of the page just above the title of your group. It will indicate your user name, e-mail address and then a link that says "Edit Membership." Click the link.

Step 4

Resign your membership. After clicking "Edit Membership" you will see a page that allows you to change a variety of settings for this group. At the bottom right-hand corner of the page there is a button that says "Leave Group." Click the button to leave the group.

Step 5

Confirm your departure on the confirmation screen. Click "Leave Group" if you wish to resign your membership or "Cancel" if you do not.

Tips & Warnings

  • For those who are tired of getting messages but are still interested in being a part of that Yahoo! Group, edit your membership so that you can read messages from the Yahoo! Group site and not have your inbox flooded with group-related e-mails.
