How to Repair a MiniSD

By Steven Diggs, Jr.

MiniSD memory cards fit into some digital cameras and cell phones and store images and videos taken with these devices. If your card gives you an error message or says that it is corrupt, the card will not function properly. Follow some specific instructions to format the card and get it working correctly again. The MiniSD drive comes already partitioned; Windows will see the card as one whole partition.

Things You'll Need

  • MiniSD to SD card converter

Step 1

Turn the miniSD in the position that has the open metal connections facing the ground, then slide the miniSD card into the open slot of the SD card converter.

Step 2

Connect the converter into the computer's horizontal rectangular labeled "SD."

Step 3

Click the "Start" button, then click "Control Panel." Click "System and Security," then "Administrative Tools." Double-click the "Computer Management" icon.

Step 4

Look in the left pane of the "Computer Management" screen. Click the text "Disk Management" under the "Storage" heading.

Step 5

Right-click the SD drive. Click the "Format" button to format your miniSD card.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make a weekly backup of your files.
  • Pulling the card out while a computer or device is accessing it will corrupt it.
