How to Reserve an XXX Domain Name

By David Sarokin

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) approved a new top-level domain (TLD) for domain names ending in .xxx. This domain is a legitimate red-light district on the Internet, serving as home to adult-themed websites. You can reserve an .xxx domain through the registry company that will be handling the allocation of names.

Step 1

Visit the website of ICM Registry and click "Reserve" or "Pre-Reserve" to begin the registration process. ICM is the company that has ICANN approval to distribute the .xxx domain names. The process for claiming an .xxx domain is similar to that for buying a .com, .net or any other domain extension.

Step 2

Click the link, "Click here to sign up for an account," and enter your account information, including name, address, email and password.

Step 3

Check your email inbox for a confirmation email. Click the link in the email or copy and paste the link into your browser in order to confirm your ICM registration.

Step 4

Log-in to your ICM account, using your email and password.

Step 5

Use the "Pre-Owned" section of ICM registration to reserve .xxx names for domain names you already own in other top-level domains. For instance, if you already own Example.com, use the "Pre-owned" fields to reserve the name Example.xxx.

Step 6

Use the "Wish List" fields to request name reservations for domains that you do not already own in other top-level domains.

Step 7

Click "Submit" to submit the .xxx name reservation requests to ICM Registry.
