How to Reset a Lexmark Cartridge

By Suvro Banerji

Lexmark printers and all-in-ones may not be as popular as HP and Brother, but are still widely used for both home and office use. Lexmark printers may not be able to give you a correct reading if you plan on using third-party ink cartridges like the ones you get from stores like Office Depot, Staples and OfficeMax. This process will help you reset the ink cartridges so it gives you the actual reading of its ink levels.

Things You'll Need

  • Installation CD (if needed)

Step 1

Launch "Printer Solution Center." You should have installed this program when you installed your Lexmark printer. Click on the Start button and selecting "All Programs." The menu command or shortcut for this program is located under the "Lexmark" folder. Click on it. If you do not see this program for some reason, insert the installation CD (provided in the printer box) into the CD/DVD-ROM drive. Follow the on-screen prompts to install the program.

Step 2

Click on the tab that says "Maintenance" on the top menu.

Step 3

Click on the button titled "Install a new printer cartridge."

Step 4

Hit "Next" to launch "Print the Alignment page" window.

Step 5

Hit the "Print" button. This will reset your ink cartridges. You should be able to see a correct reading of the ink levels on your Lexmark printer.

Step 6

Repeat this process until you successfully reset the ink cartridges. Sometimes, it may require multiple attempts to complete this task.
