How to Reset a Password on the Linksys WRT160N

By Dave Wilson

The Linksys WRT160N wireless network router supports the 802.11n wireless standard and wireless speeds over 100 Mbps. The WRT160N also supports secure wireless connections using either WEP or WPA Personal encryption to protect data sent over the wireless network. Both wireless encryption types require a single password to access the wireless network. If you cannot access the wireless network because the password you entered is not correct, reset the wireless network password using the Web administration pages of the Linksys WRT160N.

Things You'll Need

  • Windows computer connected to the router with a network cable
  • Web browser such as Internet Explorer, Safari or Firefox installed on the Windows computer
  • Credentials of the administrator account on the Linksys router

Open a Web browser on the Windows computer and click once in the address bar at the top of the Web browser window to highlight the contents of the window. Type "192.168.1.1" in the Web browser window and press the "Enter" key. The Web administration page for the router will appear.

Step 2

Type the username and password of the administrator account for the Linksys router and then press the "Enter" key. Note that the default user name and password for the WRT160N is a blank user name and password of "admin."

Step 3
