How to Reset My Password Without a Disk

By J.S. Copper

Windows allows users to create a Password Reset Disk that can be used to create a new password should you ever forget yours. Unfortunately, if you have already forgotten your password and did not create the disk, you cannot create or use such a utility. Luckily, there is still a way to easily reset your password using a Windows administrator account.

Step 1

Power on your computer. Log in as the administrator account when the Windows logon screen appears. If you do not have access to the administrator account, contact a computer administrator.

Step 2

Open the "Start" menu, select "Control Panel" and open the "User Accounts" option.

Step 3

Click "Manage Another Account" and select the account with the forgotten password.

Step 4

Click "Remove the password" and confirm the action. This will erase the password protection for the account.

Step 5

Click "Create a password." Enter the new password, enter it again to confirm and click "Create Password." Once finished, the user account password will be reset.
