How to Reset the Kindle 3
If you have problems with your Kindle 3, resetting the device may help. Amazon recommends a reset if your computer won't recognize the Kindle, if your computer gives an error message when you plug in the device, if the Kindle's screen becomes unresponsive or if you forget your password. If the problems persist after you reset the Kindle 3, you may be eligible for a refund. Amazon's return policy allows 30 days from the date of purchase to return an item for a full refund.
Turn the Kindle 3 to view the bottom of the device. Locate the power switch on the far right side, next to the USB port.
Slide the power switch. Hold it for at least 15 seconds.
Release the power button, and wait for the Kindle 3 to restart.
Slide the power switch over and immediately let it go if the Kindle is off or in sleep mode.
Type "resetmykindle" when it prompts you for a password.
Press "Enter." The Kindle 3 will restart.
