When you first install a Linksys wireless router, you're given the opportunity to set up a username and a password. You'll use this username and password to change any of your connection or security settings. However, if you forget the password or your username, you'll have to reset your router to its default setting. After you've reset the password, you'll need to change your Linksys wireless router settings, as they'll be reset along with the username and password.
Press the reset button and hold it down for 30 seconds. You can find the reset button on the back of your Linksys router.
Launch a Web browser. Type "192.168.1.1" (without quotes) into the address bar. Your router's administration page will subsequently be displayed.
Type "admin" (without quotes) as the password while leaving the username blank. This will allow you to log in to the router's network administration page and change the password once inside. The steps vary, depending on which type of Linksys wireless router you're using. In general, you should see a tab that says "Administration" near the top of the page. After selecting the "Administration" tab, you'll be taken to a page with a username field (if you want to change it) and two password boxes, one for your old password and another for your new password. Type the old password into the old password box and the new password into the new password box, then click "Save Settings."
