How to Restart Page Numbering in Word 2007

By Greg Lindberg

Microsoft Word 2007 includes a Page Number Format option, which can be used to automatically number pages in a document. This feature allows a user to restart page numbering at any given point, such as when editing changes affect the sequence of the original document.

Step 1

Open the Word 2007 file for which you want to restart page numbering.

Step 2

Click on the "Insert" tab from the top toolbar ribbon menu, then click the "Page Number" option from the "Headers & Footers" group.

Step 3

Click on the "Format Page Numbers" option. The "Page Number Format" dialog box will appear on the screen.

Step 4

Click on the top arrow in the text box next to the "Start at" field until you reach "1," then click on the "OK" button.

Step 5

Use the mouse to scroll to the first page of the document to verify that the page numbering has restarted at "1" for the first page.
