How to Restore an HP PC to Factory Settings
Hewlett-Packard computers run using the Windows operating system. This means that if you want to restore an HP PC to its factory settings, you need to use Windows' System Restore function. System Restore is designed to help computer owners go back in time on their computers and change the computer settings. This can be especially helpful if you have a virus or unwanted program on your computer. It also is helpful when you want to restore your PC to factory settings.
Click the "Start" menu at the bottom of your computer screen. Click "Control Panel."
Click "Accessories," then select "System Tools."
Select the "System Restore" icon. This will open the System Restore dialog box.
Select the button next to "Choose a different restore point." Click the "Next" button. A list of restoration points will populate the window.
Use the "Back" arrow to scroll back to the beginning of the list. Click the earliest restore date on the list. This is the date that will restore your PC to factory settings. Click "Next."
Click "Finish." The computer will shut down and restart. Click the "Close" button when the "System Restore was Successful" box appears after the computer restarts. Your HP PC has now been restored to factory settings.
