How to Restore My Acer Laptop
There may be times when a virus infestation, system malfunction or some other affliction requires you to turn back the clock on your computer’s settings, restoring them to what they were at an earlier time. Fortunately, every Acer computer with an installed Windows-based operating system comes with a feature called “System Restore.” Microsoft implemented System Restore to allow users to literally roll back their computer settings to an earlier date. For example, if your Acer laptop works fine one day, but something breaks the next, you can just use System Restore to change everything back to a day before the problem began.
Things You'll Need
- Acer laptop
- Windows ME or later
Click the "Start" menu and select "Programs" (or “All Programs” in Windows Vista or later).
Navigate to the "Accessories" folder, open the "System Tools" folder and click “System Restore.”
Click the back-arrow button on the calendar that appears until you reach the very first system restore point.
Press the "Next" button when the “Confirm Restore Point Selection” page appears.
Allow Windows to restore your Acer laptop. This process can take several minutes. Windows will restart itself to finalize the restoration process.
Confirm that the restoration was successful when prompted to do so after the computer reboots. This is your only chance to undo the system-restore, so be sure that the problem has been fixed before clicking "OK."
Tips & Warnings
- A typical system-restore will only repair the files related directly to the operating system, NOT delete the files on your hard drive. Nevertheless, it is always best to back up your music, videos and other data files before you begin the restoration process just in case a malfunction deletes some files.
