How to Retrieve Voicemail on Verizon

Setup of voice mail options, and the retrieval of messages on a Verizon Wireless cellular phone, are fast and simple, giving the owner peace of mind that important messages will not be lost.

Setting Up Verizon Voice Mailbox

Step 1

Dial *86 or VM on your Verizon Wireless cell phone.

Step 2

Press the red "Send" key.

Step 3

Follow the system prompts that guide through the creation of a personal password and personal greeting your callers will hear.

Step 4

Create a personal password when prompted.

Step 5

Create a personal greeting your callers will hear. The prompt system will give allow you to record and play back your personal greeting until you are satisfied with it.

Step 6

Hang up to exit voice mail setup when you are satisfied with your personal greeting.

Retrieval of Verizon Voice Mail Messages

Step 1

Dial *86 or VM on your Verizon Wireless phone.

Step 2

Press the red "Send" key.

Step 3

Enter your personal password when prompted.

Step 4

Press # to bypass your personal greeting and go directly to voice mail.

Step 5

Listen to your messages and save or delete the messages as prompted by the system.

Accessing Verizon Wireless Voice Mail From a Remote Location or Other Phone

Step 1

Dial your 10-digit Verizon Wireless phone number from any touch tone telephone.

Step 2

Press # to bypass your personal greeting.

Step 3

Dial your personal password, followed by #, when prompted.

Step 4

Save or delete your messages as prompted.

Tips & Warnings

  • Voice mail is not available in all areas. Voice mailboxes that are not set up within 45 days of receipt of phone are canceled. In order for your voice mailbox be protected from unauthorized access, a personal password must be created.
