How to Run TV Audio Out to a Headphone Jack

There may be times where you are watching a television program next to someone who would rather try to sleep or read a book. No doubt the audio from the television is going to distract them, so they probably would want you to have the TV on mute. Of course while on Mute you can't hear what is going on. To get around this you need to connect a pair of headphones to the TV audio out, allowing you to watch and listen to the TV while the other individual can sleep or do whatever else they nee to do.

Step

Insert your headphones into the specifically designated "Headphones" jack. If you have a television built within the last few years you may have one of these jacks.

Step

Find your way behind the television an location the audio "Out" ports. These are red and white colored ports next to a yellow video port. You need these if your television doesn't have a headphones jack.

Step

Plug an RCA to 1/8 female stereo adapter into the audio "Out" ports. Make sure the red is plugged into the red and white into white.

Step

Plug your headphones into the 1/8 jack on the other end of the RCA adapter. This allows you to listen to the televisions audio through your headphones.
