How to Save Pictures on an iPad
Your picture's source will determine the best method for saving it on your iPad. For example, a photo taken by the second generation iPad's built-in camera automatically saves to your photo gallery. You can save images from online or email with just a few taps, but transferring whole photo albums to your iPad from your computer requires syncing with iTunes. The email or download method works best for individual photos or small batches that you don't need organized in specific folders. Use iTunes to save all or part of your existing picture library to your iPad.
Things You'll Need
- Computer (optional)
- Sync cable (optional)
Open the email or launch the website that contains the picture you want to save.
Tap the link to download the image onto your iPad.
Tap your downloaded picture to access the menu bar if it does not appear across the top. Press the action button in the upper left corner to access the options menu. If you are trying to save an image embedded in a website rather than from a downloadable link, press your finger on the image and hold it there until the options menu appears.
Choose "Save photo" from the menu. The image will save to your Photos app on the iPad.
Transfer via iTunes
Organize your photos into folders on your computer, naming the folders as you want them to appear on your iPad.
Plug your iPad into your computer with the included sync cable and open iTunes.
Select your iPad from the List of devices in iTunes, and then click the "Photos" tab.
Follow the onscreen instructions to browse for your photo folders and import them into the iPad/iTunes interface. These instructions vary slightly by operating system.
Click "Apply," "Sync" or both, depending on the options your computer offers. Once the sync process is complete, your photos are saved on your iPad in their respective folders, which the iPad calls "Albums."
Tips & Warnings
- You can save any full-screen image on your iPad as a screen shot. Press the home and sleep/wake buttons simultaneously, then release them. Your iPad will snap a screen shot and save it in the Photos app.
