How to Save YouTube Videos on Macs

Youtube is a website that lets users upload video to share with the rest of the world. Using a Mac you are able to download videos that are uploaded to YouTube. This is beneficial to share videos or to keep funny or interesting videos for yourself that you found while surfing the site. It will take about five minutes to save videos to your Mac from YouTube.

Step 1

Open your Safari browser and go to the YouTube video that you want to save on your Mac.

Step 2

Click "Window" in your main menu and go down and click "Activity. Find the largest file, it will likely be a couple of megabytes.

Step 3

Wait until the size of that item stops changing. Hold down your Option key on your keyboard and double-click on the item. The movie file, which will be called video.flv, will download to your "Downloads" folder.

Step 4

Open your Safari browser again and go to Click the "Download VLC" button on the right side.

Step 5

Open the VLC player on your Mac. Go to "File" in the main menu, scroll down and click "Open." Find the video.flv file downloaded in Step 3.
