How to Scan a Document and Then Type on It

Converting a page of text to a text file does not require a meticulous retyping of the entire document. With a scanner and an Internet connection, you can use free online OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software to convert your text to digital format in just a few minutes.

Things You'll Need

Step 1

Use your scanner and the software included with it to turn your page of text into an image file.

Step 2

Click "Choose File" and browse to the image from your scanner and click "Open."

Step 4

Enter the Captcha code (an image recognition test that shows a distorted alpha numeric code that you must enter to prove you are a human and not a spamming computer program) and click "Send File."

Step 5

Copy the text from the field under "Text recognition result:" and paste it into your favorite text editing application.
