How to See if the Government Owes You Money

Search by State
Make a list of states you have lived in.
Visit the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrator website. Press the green "Owners Enter Here" button.
Scroll down the web page and read the different sections. Take time to review the information carefully.
Find the "Begin Your Search Now For Money That Might Be Due To You" section at the top of the page.
Click on the "State by State Search" link. Read the page information and click on each state you want to search. Follow the prompts on each individual state government website to search for and claim unclaimed property.
Search by Name
Return to the Unclaimed Property website by clicking the "Back" button on your browser. Select the "Search 35 States at Missingmoney.com" link
Type your first and last name as indicated then press the "Go" button.
Search the list of matching names and click on each individual name link to see unclaimed property information.
Make sure that the property belongs to you by verifying all the information. Read the page carefully and press the "Yes, I can Claim" button.
Follow the instructions on the website to claim your money.
Search Using Other Resources
Go back to the Unclaimed Property website by pressing the "Back" button on your browser twice.
Locate and click on the "Other Resources To Search" link.
Scroll down the page and visit the different links. Click on each link to search other unclaimed property databases.
