How to See Internet Explorer History

Internet Explorer comes standard on computers using a Microsoft Windows operating system. Using this browser allows you to visit websites and download Web content. Internet Explorer automatically stores a list of websites you have visited, allowing you to easily return to the sites. Viewing your browsing history lets you see the sites you have visited in the past and remove certain pages from the list.

Step 1

Open the browser by double-clicking the Internet Explorer icon on your desktop.

Step 2

Choose the "History" button on the toolbar at the top of the page. This opens a side bar with a series of folders.

Step 3

Select the folder that corresponds to the browsing history you want to view. For example, double-click the "Last Week" folder to view websites you viewed the previous week.

Internet Explorer 7 or 8

Step 1

Open Internet Explorer by double-clicking its desktop icon.

Step 2

Click the "Favorites" star on the left of the page. This opens a side bar containing several tabs and folders.

Step 3

Select the "History" tab at the top of the side bar.

Step 4

Double-click the folder that contains the website history you want to view. Click a website name to return to that site.

Step 5

Search for a specific website by selecting "Search History" from the drop-down menu. Type keywords in the search box to locate the website.

Tips & Warnings

  • Internet Explorer versions 7 and 8 allow you to sort your website history by date, site, most visited or the order you visited sites today. Select these options from the drop-down menu in the "History" tab of the "Favorites" section.
  • Anyone with access to your computer can view your Internet Explorer history. Delete sites from the history section if you do not want others to view them.
