How to Send PDF Files to an iPad

PDF documents insure that the contents look the same regardless of the tool you use for viewing them, and are a commonly used file format for sharing information via email or over the Web. Apple iOS devices, including the iPad, give you the ability to view PDF files with the free iBooks application.

Syncing From the Computer

Step 1

Open iTunes.

Step 2

Confirm that your iBooks application is updated to version 1.1 or later. If not, click the "update app" button to download the updates.

Step 3

Click the "Books" tab under the Library list in iTunes.

Step 4

Drag-and-drop PDF files from your computer's desktop or folder into the Books window.

Step 5

Connect your iPad to your computer.

Step 6

Click on the iPad icon in the left-hand column.

Step 7

Choose the "Books" tab within the iPad sync area.

Step 8

Check the boxes next to the PDFs that you want to transfer to your iPad.

Step 9

Click the "Sync" button.

Adding PDFs From Email

Step 1

Open the email using the Mail app.

Step 2

Click the file name icon at the bottom of your email to load the PDF file.

Step 3

Click the "Open in" button at the top right of your screen.

Step 4

Select "iBooks." The document is now saved to your iBooks application.
