How to Set Browser Settings

By Art Corvelay

Web browsers are often the most accessed applications on your personal computer. Many people access the Internet through their browsers but may not realize that there are several customizable settings on their web browsers.

Step 1

Open your web browser of choice. The most popular browsers include Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safari.

Step 2

Open the preferences panel. Regardless of browser, you should be able to access preferences by navigating to "File > Preferences."

Step 3

Set your general settings. On all browsers you will be able to change your general or main settings. From here, you can change your home page. When you open your web browser, your browser will automatically open your home page.

Step 4

Change your content settings. In all browsers, you will be able to change your content settings to either allow or not allow pop-up windows and java-enabled websites. You will also be able to change your font size from this menu.

Step 5

Change your web history settings. Most browsers will automatically save your web browsing history. However, you can often change this setting so that your history is automatically deleted. This will include all passwords and cookies you have used in your web browsing.
