How to Set Internet Options

By John Smith

There are many different Internet options for customizing your online experience. Whether you use Internet Explorer, Firefox or another Web browser, they all allow you the ability to change settings. If you are running an anti-virus program with Internet security, it may also have some settings that affect your ability to surf online. Learn your options and how much security you need by browsing through the different Internet options on your computer.

Step 1

Go to the "Control Panel" located under the "Start" menu. Select "Internet Options." From here you can manually set Internet properties, including security and privacy. Be careful when adjusting settings you don't fully understand, as you can manually lower your security measures and open yourself up to hackers.

Step 2

Open your main Internet browser. Select the "Tools" menu and then choose "Options." Here you can customize all of your browser settings. Scroll through the top tabs such as "Main," "Security," and "Advanced."

Step 3

If you have an anti-virus program running, you can also change your Internet settings as it pertains to your security software. Some programs will run protection automatically to safeguard your computer. Open the anti-virus program and adjust any desired settings. From here you can raise or lower the firewall settings or select which programs you wish to grant access to the Internet.
