How to Set Up A Sonicview Premier FTA Receiver

By Patrick Nelson

The Sonicview SV-360 Premier is a free-to-air (FTA) receiver. You can use it to receive television programming from a ground-based dish pointed at a satellite in the sky. It's slightly different than the subscription-based services like DIRECTV and Dish in that FTA doesn't have all the premium programming that those services offer. But free-to-air is good for foreign language news and domestic religious programming.

Things You'll Need

  • 31-inch minimum KU-band satellite

Step 1

Insert batteries in the remote control.

Step 2

Plug in the receiver. The device will enter its initial setup procedure. The first prompts will ask you to choose a language for the user interface. Use the direction keys on the remote to choose your language. A "No TV Channel" message will come up on the screen.

Step 3

Plug in the receiver. The device will enter its initial setup procedure. The first prompts will ask you to choose a language for the user interface. Use the direction keys on the remote to choose your language. A "No TV Channel" message will then come up on the screen.

Step 4

Press the "Menu" key and the Main Menu will appear. Go to the Installation menu using the direction keys and choose the Dish Setting sub-menu. Press OK.

Step 5

Choose the satellite you have pointed your dish at and that you would like to search. Use the Volume Up/Down keys. There will be a list of common satellites preset in the device. You can also add a satellite by pressing the Red function key and following the prompts, but you'll need to know some technical details about the satellite.

Step 6

Check the signal strength and quality. You'll see a signal strength bar on the page.

Step 7

Start the Channel Scan using the on-screen buttons. Allow the process to take place and then select Yes when the device asks you if you want to save the scan. Press "Exit" and the device will tune to Channel 1.

Step 8

Edit the channels you want to retain on the device. The scan can produce a considerable number of channels. Many you will not be interested in because they broadcast in a language you don't understand, for example. You can speed surfing by deleting those channels you know you'll never use. From the Main Menu choose the "Channel Edit" menu. Use the Green button to delete channels.
