How to Share a Word Document on Facebook

Facebook is a social network that allows you to share content with your personal network of friends on the site, as well as with any Facebook groups of which you are a member. In addition to text content, Facebook's platform has native support for uploading, hosting and displaying video and image files in many different formats. However, Facebook currently has no capacity for uploading Microsoft Word documents. If you want to share a Word document with your Facebook friends, you must first upload it to a third-party server, and then post it as a link.

Step

Upload your Word document to a third-party Web server. If you don't have your own server space, use a free file-hosting service such as 4shared.com to upload your document. Though each file-hosting service is different, generally they all require the same steps: Register for a free account, and then follow the on-screen instructions to browse your hard drive and upload your document to the server. Typically, once you have successfully uploaded your document, the site then redirects you to a page that displays the document's download link that you can share with others.

Highlight the download URL of your Word document. Right-click the highlighted text and click "Copy" in the pop-up dialog box that appears, to copy the URL to your computer's clipboard.

Log in to your Facebook account and click the "Link" tab in the middle column at the top of the page.

Right-click the field and click "Paste" in the pop-up menu that appears, and then click the "Attach" button. Facebook creates a hyperlink to your Word document's download URL. If you want to edit or add to the title and description that Facebook automatically generates, click anywhere in the text and begin typing, and then press "Enter" when you're done.

Click the "Share" button beneath the field once the post looks the way you want it to, to share the Word document with your Facebook friends.
